The Farm Project

The start of our intentional community

Starting a commune isn’t about escaping the world — it’s about creating a way of life where we can thrive together. It’s about raising our kids in a healthier environment, building resilience, and proving that cooperation can work in a world that often pushes competition. But our good intentions aren’t always going to be enough. To succeed, we will need clarity, financial transparency, flexibility, and above all, a commitment to each other for the long haul.

This page outlines five key steps to lay the groundwork for our thriving community:

  1. Finding our People

  2. Building Mutual Understanding

  3. Finding the Right Spot

  4. Adjusting the Plan

  5. Working Towards our Goals Together

The Next Steps

Step 1:

Finding our People

We have a great foundation with everyone here so now it's time to  get some stuff on paper. Step one consist of a each interested person filling out simple questionnaire where we will all outline our basic requirements, commitments and goals and ideas..

Step 2:

Building a Mutual Understanding

Once we understand everyone's needs and goals, we need a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or something like it — a written agreement that outlines expectations, boundaries, and commitments. This isn’t just a legal-like document; it’s a living understanding that will continuously evolve as we all grow older, our kids grow up, and the community itself changes.

Step 3:

Finding the Right Spot

Once we establish an agreed upon understanding regarding how we intend to operate the community and we also understand what everyone is capable of providing financially, we can begin to look for the perfect piece of land to build our community on.

Step 4:

Adjusting the Plan

No matter how carefully we plan, reality will force adjustments. Moving in together, starting projects, managing animals or gardens — all of it will reveal blind spots and the key here is adaptability. If someone’s circumstances change, if a plan doesn’t work, if finances need rebalancing — don’t see it as failure, see it as growth. A commune must evolve with its people.

Step 5:

Working Towards the Goal Together

The final ingredient is commitment to the long haul. This is not about instant utopia. It’s about becoming patient, loving, resilient, thoughtful, considerate, hardworking, passionate, and healthy — together.
